An Enfield Pattern 1853 rifle-musket. Also know as the P53 Indian Pattern Three-band Enfield.
The Musket used by the British Empire from 1853 to 1867.
Originally, the term "rifle-musket" described muskets whose smooth-bored barrels were replaced with rifled ones while maintaining their original length. This allowed for firing in ranks, with the extended barrel accommodating the second rank of soldiers.
Equipped with bayonets, these weapons were effective against cavalry.
The Royal Small Arms Factory developed the Pattern 1853 Enfield, featuring a 39-inch barrel with three grooves and a 1:78 rifling twist, often referred to as a "three band" model.
Cartridges contained 68 grains of gunpowder, propelling a 530-grain ball at approximately 1,250 feet per second.
With 38" (97 cm) barrel. Overall length approx 55" (140 cm).
Good strong action holding full & half cock.
Now a wonderful decorative piece.
